Louver - the mood lamp

Louver

The project is built upon the concept of "synesthesia". Simply put, when one sense is activated, another unrelated sense is activated at the same time (such as visualizing sound, hearing a color, and feeling a taste of some kind). I'm intrigued by the infinite possibilities it can bring since different elements that we perceive in life can evoke certain kinds of memory/sensation.

I wonder if I'm able to use synesthesia to imitate something that doesn't exist? Such as reminding users of the blowing wind but without actually generating the wind? Can the illumination enhance its own existence in our living space by some sort of interaction built upon synesthesia?

Type: personal concept
Status: in development
Form Ideation

Form, material, and color scheme are inspired by 90's electronics appliances, appreciating the simplicity of Ram's design and geometrical shape of the first Apple mouse and Gameboy, at the same time giving it a modern touch.
Interaction

The interaction was inspired by the car air vent adjustment. Instead of which direction air comes through the vent, it actually controls how much light passes through window blind, accomplishing "Synesthesia" that makes sunlight "blow" towards users.
Brands like Gantri reminds me that light source means so much more than the typical task of illumination. Light represents positivity which grants us hope and inspiration, and we as designers need to reimagine the relationship between people and lighting according to its unique property.
