The Twelve Hundred Mile Walk
In 2017 I set out to walk 1200 miles down the entire coastline of California. Armed with no backpacking experience, a 50 pound backpack, no cell service and the desire to test myself against the unknown, I set off. The first week was one of the hardest of my life.
I was in pain, lonely, cold, wet and generally lost and miserable for the first 7 days straight. What kept me going was the knowledge that I had to get over the novelty of the thing in order to truly experience it for itself, not just for its shock-value.
