A History of American Protest

A History of American Protest

A series of 8 stamps examining philatelic semiotics.
Stamps commonly symbolize something about their country of origin. One of my favorite cultural features of America is our history of protest. We were founded on protest and it remains an integral part of our culture.

This box set celebrates 8 protest singers and songwriters from significant periods of civil unrest.
Each stamp sheet is protected in a sleeve with hand-lettered lyrics from their most powerful or well-known songs.

All 8 are contained in one box-set, modeled after 45s.
All artists were hand-painted in a folk art style on wood. Lyrics were also hand-lettered.

Clockwise from top: Woody Guthrie, Henry Rollins of Black Flag, Green Day, KRS-One

(from bottom) Phil Ochs, The Hutchinson Family Singers, Joe Hill and Josh White
