One of the most enjoyable projects I ever worked on was a piece about religious processions in Sicily. This was prior to the internet taking over our lives, prior to social media. I sent my first ever text from the backseat of a car in the Sicilian countryside. Two Leicas, two lenses, and most importantly, time. I would leave for weeks and never once have contact with anyone at home or work. At night, staying in an old farmhouse, we would cook, listen to albums and never once touch a phone. I would number and label my film and spent huge amounts of field time making notes and writing the essay that would accompany the images. The work was published several times and exhibited but I never really cared. This project, like all my others, was about the experience of being in the field.
