It's a fancy late 60s term for a psychological phenomenon. In case that doesn't make any sense: it actually means that successful people tend to attribute their success to their own efforts. On the flipside, underachievers generally blame circumstances instead.
However, Roger Schmidt; the guy who's covered in the article, is an exception to this rule. He acknowledges that he owes his unexpected success to luck and coincidence.
