Weaver // 2020
Weaver is a desktop 3D printer designed for small visual and communication agencies who wants to produce affordable stop-motion videos.
Weaver is at the same time a 3D printer and a photo booth: in this way digital creators can print and shoot their video's frame directly inside their printer. The introduction of a double spooler and a double noozle extruder make it possible to print 3D printing supports in a different color - for example the same color of the background - in order to remove them easily in the post production process. This feature gives a lot of creative freedom to artists who can now print their own puppets with no technical constraints to keep in mind.
Problem setting
Handcrafting props is a long and costly operation that entails technical constraints for stop-motion artists.
Design opportunity
With 3D printing, digital creators can create as many different puppets or props they want with no additional costs to the development process.
LIGHTING SYSTEM
On the upper part - opposite the building plate - Weaver has a dimmable RGB Led panel which can be easily controlled by artists: they can change the background and the light's colors to improve visual effects.
Double extruder, Double colour
Some shapes and volumes cannot be printed by FFF technology without printing supports, but of course in our case the supports, being another color, are easily removed post-process. For this reason the introduction of a double extruder is crucial: users can print supports in a different color - for example, the same as the background - to remove them easily in post-production. More freedom in puppet customization can add more creativity and realism to the final stop-motion clip.
HEPA FILTER
Weaver is a desktop 3D printer which cares about users' health: on the back side of the printer, we introduced a HEPA filter to reduce harmful gas emission into the work space, improving the general air quality.
