Child Obesity Advocacy Poster Series

Today, more than 93 million Americans are affected by the disease of obesity. Child obesity is also a growing concern for American children. The design of the poster series aligns with the goals of the OAC (obesity action coalition) to spread the message about the rising numbers of obese children.

One poster reflects "type and image" and the other one "type as image." The posters focus on tackling childhood obesity through positive encouragement and involvement. The call to action is aimed at the parents as a literal call to action: to get out and actively play with their kids.

The first direction is intended to mirror a child's artwork with a watercolor paint texture and simple shapes. I wanted to take on this more serious topic with more whimsical graphics that would appear inviting to children and parents. The statistics are disheartening, but it's not too late to exercise.

For the second direction I played with the concept of fractions. Many pieces come together to make up the whole, similar to how each calorie of food accumulates in our body as potential energy. By encouraging our children to eat less and be more active, we can combat childhood obesity.
