San Francisco Olympians Ekhidna

The San Francisco Olympians Festival Ekhidna 2014
Here I showed I already knew I wanted the Mother of Monsters to have two tails and multiple arms but, it was really the placement of everything that had me stumped. I ended up messing with where her end of her tails ended up not necessarily where her arms ended up. I did heavy research on jewelry, what a stone throne, and a cave lair near where her sea lair would look like according to her original stories.
This is kind of what my blocking for environments looked like when I first started out trying to figure out what I was looking at with reference images back in 2014. I would draw lines and then block in colors like I would with characters. Now, more than a half decade later, I just kinda Bob Ross style it. Where I just lay it out and not worry about where the paint goes. As in, I just pull and push the light around until I'm happy.
Here is where I color block the character and then move on to adding darks and lights. I turned off the lines to better show what that would look like without all the extra details the line work brings to the table. As above is the finial piece, when everything comes together.
