WAQF
A Mystical Stop at the Stories of Quran
WAQF (a pause / stop in Arabic) is an interactive book for children, illustrating the mystical stories and historic events mentioned in the holy book of Quran.
The purpose is to engage children in a motor exercise to challenge their imagination and encourage learning outside the digital world.
Project: Approaching the study of Quranic events through the theme of proximity and interaction with the use of motor and sensory elements.
Objective: To present these events in a visual light to spark interest and engagement.
Strategy: To design a book with interactive features that combine multi-layered elements such as folded popups and windows to keep the audience engaged and invested.
For this prototype 3 events / stories have been selected according to their presence in a single Surah (chapter). The expansion strategy proposal is to divide the book into
series which are going to be released annually, during the holiday seasons, so that children can engage with parents to learn and experience the book.

For every story, I had in mind a color theme to set the mood. For example, I chose a warm colored theme for the first story, because it is set in a warmer place and the events largely occur during the day time.
In addition to this, some mystical references of Moses’s relation to Allah (God) had a play in this choice too.
The specks of color and dots are a recurring element
in illustrations throughout the book, they give the
scene a sense of wind, movement and add to the whimsical aspect.
