HOMMAGE: JAN RAJLICH (1920–2016)

To mark the 100th birth anniversary of Jan Rajlich Sr., the initiator and long-time chairman of the International Biennale of Graphic Design Brno, in 2019 the SBB Brno Biennale Association organized an international poster event in which invited 100 designers had to reflect on his personality, life, and work. In 2020, the Brno Biennale Association decided to expand the event and invited other graphic artists via the Internet - the professional public (JR 100+).

Who is Jan Rajlich Sr. (April 10, 1920 - November 27, 2016):
- poster artist, typographer, pioneer of a unified visual style and information graphics in Czechia
- founder of the International Biennial of Graphic Design in Brno (1963) and its president for 30 years
- also a publicist, pedagogue and organizer of cultural life
- in his work he sought to overcome the barriers between design and art
- promoted the design of visual communications and its recognition and adequate place in society.

The exhibition is the 74th exhibition of the long-term exhibition series SBB Brno - the capital of graphic design. Selected posters from the internet event JR 100+ were exhibited publicly on-line both on the facebook group, and on the web page of SBB.

The poster was part of the first China Europe International Design and Culture Association(CEIDA) Member Excellent Works Exhibition that was held on 31/10/2020 -in Zhengzhou China.

The work has won the Communication Art’s Award of Excellence in the 11th 2021 Typography Competition(CA).
