Discovering Bowrington Road

STREETS OF HONG KONG - BOWRINGTON ROAD
Technically, Bowrington Road is in Wan Chai but, the market is a flyover and a stone's throw from Causeway Bay, one of Hong Kong's premiere shopping districts.

Aside from the commercial aspects of Causeway Bay and all the high rise tower blocks in the district, Causeway Bay still has a sizeable residential population. Most of the residents live in fairly low-rise [10 to 12 stories or less], aging residential developments. At one time, Causeway Bay was a sort of premium residential district. It perhaps still is. The apartments here were large - as in 800 square feet and more. Many have now been taken over and converted into hostels or have been subdivided into smaller, let's just say, "compact" residential units.

At the heart of this residential district is the Bowrington Road market. The  market is a popular place for locals to buy fresh produce, meats, and other food items. The market is well known for its wide selection of food and its bustling atmosphere, as vendors and shoppers haggle and interact in this vibrant and energetic environment.

As with most of Hong Kong's wet or fresh produce markets, these markets are an important part of the local community. They also provide unique glimpses into daily life and Hong Kong's vibrant street life and culture. This is where people live. This is where they chose to make their primary food purchases - as opposed to secondary or supplementary sources as maybe the case elsewhere in the world.
