This would start off as a teaser campign. Posters like the one below would be placed around the City of Edinburgh which would leave people wondering what was happening on that particular date.
This would also carry on to bus advertising.
As the date came closer, we would send out direct mail specifically to gamers in Edinburgh which would take the form of Call Up Papers and would tell you a little about the backstory of the Edinburgh Zoo game.
On the date shown on the posters an App will become available to download and would allow you to read a little more about the backstory of what is going on.
The Edinburgh Zoo reception are would be mocked up to look like a landing beach or base camp in order to enhance the experience.
As you leave the reception are you are handed a survival pack which contains some nourishments, a map for those non-digital customers and a poncho to accomodate for the typical Scottish weather.
Incase you may have forgotten to charge your phone there will be Powermats throughout the zoo to allow you to give your smartphone more juice.
The app will guide you through the zoo by telling you where to go. Along the way your smart phone will buzz and vibrate to alert you that a poacher is close by.
The aim of the game is to use your smart phone to scan the area and find the poacher, using augmented reality, and then take a picture of the poacher and saving the animal.
To minimise cost for Edinburgh Zoo we decided to use augmented reality to enhance the signage which already exists. This will give you more fun facts about each animal.
There will also be videos for each animal allowing yopu to see what it would be like in its natural environment
Because most of the time the animals are either sleeping or sitting down, we thought it would be a good use of the technology to allow the user to interact with the animal throught their smart phone.
At the end of each animal there will be a quiz which is linked to the extra facts from the signage. Once you score enough points you will be able to tackle the Boss.
At a certain point in the game, a refuel alert will appear on your phone telling you to go and have lunch.
To increase sales, we decided to target the vending machines throughout the zoo by using augmented reality to slightly alter the look of them.
With every game there is a boss at the top of the hill and ours is no different. Edinburgh Zoo is on a hill and when you are at the top there are some spectacular views so we decided to add to the Zoo Island experience by using augmented reality again to change the Edinburgh scenery to show the zoo as if it were on an island.
At the beginning of the zoo there was an empty enclosure which we were told to use it how we see best. So we thought it would be the perfect place to end the game. Once you are ready to leave you simply point you smart phone at it and it will download all your captured poachers into the "jail cell".
We thought that creating your own unique ranking t-shirt according to your score would be a nice way to remember the experience.
When it came to the look and feel we wanted it to be quite dark so that it appealed to a more adult audience.
A mock up of what the billboard would look like in Edinburgh.
We wanted to grab your attention as much as possible as it is so easy to hit the "skip video" button when it comes to YouTube adverts so we decided to make it a full takeover.
Arough idea of what the animal bio would look like and how you would interact with it.
You would be able to keep all these items so that you could come back anytime.
