After completing the California Soccer League (CSL) earlier this year, I decided to embark on an even larger companion league!
The California Soccer League 2 is a fictional 70-team, lower-division league that is divided into seven geographical divisions, each with 10 teams. Unlike the CSL, all 70 teams in this league are within the state of California. Some teams are affiliated in some capacity with CSL clubs while others operate independently. In this fictional realm, the MLS and USL do not exist and state-specific leagues dominate the American soccer landscape.
When making each team, I conducted extensive research into each location to make sure that the teams encapsulated what the location is best known for. Many teams have distinctive local flairs in their design, and the jersey sponsors are companies that are based in that specific area. The player names are also a notable person that comes from each area, and most of them don't actually play soccer!
This league allowed me to create unique teams for even more cities across California, and I was able to learn more about the cities that I was not able to reach with the CSL. Some CSL2 crest designs are also re-adaptations of Snapchat Geofilter designs that I have created for cities in California.
