It goes without saying that COVID-19 had a significant impact in many ways. We were approached by AstraZeneca to create an inspirational story centered around a real woman named Heidi, who against all odds, defeated Stage 3 lung cancer. The original video was planned out to be an up-close and personal interview that we had to cancel due to the pandemic stay-at-home orders. We didn't have much to work with aside from a 3-hour phone call interview and a small batch of photographs. We put our heads together and found the best way to tell Heidi's story was to bring the viewer into an illustrated world of wonder to tell her journey of hope and perseverance.

I partnered up with Rafael Varona to bring Heidi's story to life with his beautiful illustration work to invite the viewer into the world of wonder. Marrying Rafael's illustration work with a custom 3D environment, we recreated Heidi's home in Colorado. We composed an animated story full of easter eggs and symbolic references that helped bring her unbelievable tale to life.
