The biological ‘clock’ of the human species has been keeping rhythm with the cycle of night and day for so long that is has become part of our DNA. This time keeping cycle is known as the human circadian rhythm. Amongst the many important bodily functions that are dictated by this rhythm, the human sleep pattern and its resulting restorative effects stand out the most. It has been proved that the disruption of this rhythm leads to severe and adverse impacts on mental and physical health. These impacts include manifestation of SJL, which can lead to many mental disorders such as depression and philological illness such as cancer.
Light impacts all humans and this impact is far reaching, like ripples caused by a pebble when it falls into a pond. The circadian rhythm is primarily influenced by light. Natural daylight serves as the primary input that ensures a healthy circadian rhythm. In contemporary society factors such as artificial lighting, lighting from screens and devices and a societal migration towards a 24 hour society are causing this rhythm to be disrupted. This disruption results in a sleep pattern or ‘chronotype’ shift. The Chronolight is a light therapy product that combats this circadian rhythm disruption by promoting improved sleep quality.
