To translate the flavour and aesthetic of Honest Chocolate's Bittersweet Orange chocolate, I studied the relationship between the words 'bitter' and 'sweet'. When put next to one another, these words form a contrasting relationship. I, therefore, combined opposing visual elements to illustrate the nature of the flavour.
Flamingoes, commonly found in watery regions such as estuaries and lake, are often associated with the 'sweet' things of life: summer and fruit.
Prickly cacti, living in arid conditions such as deserts, have a bitter taste and can have connotations of unpleasantness - imagine the pain of getting pricked by a cactus.
By putting these two opposing organisms in conversation, they visually speak to the chocolate's bittersweet sensation.
