Virtue Space- Japanese Small House

The domestic space is proposed associated with the sense of humble and extraordinary in Wabi-sabi and Oku concept and translate into Australian, urban context. Living space, kitchen, dining, two bedrooms and bathroom are proposed to the house.
Initially, several prototypes are made which are simple but abstract with shape and structure. Throughout the model making, unique shape and angles create the intrinsically space.

2 volumes represent the seperation between public and private zone. Decking and patterned roof connected the volume.  Wooden stripes are used to shed and playing with the shadow as well.
Wabi sabi is the key element in designing this teahouse. It defined as simple and elegant beauty in term of abstract. Simple and sleek line structure, lighting and shadow in the proposed design can tell the basic of aesthetics of imperfection.
As the site content is rectangular, the proposed space planning can be well arranged to meet the Oku concept.  Public zone is proposed at infront of the house, while bedrooms are located at the back of the house. It is surrounded by garden and free from outside intrusion.
Despite the traditional materials, contemporary materials can bring the aesthetics to the building and human as well by it surfaces and qualities. Different surfaces of materials can stimulate our sense in touch and visualize. Stainless steel has sleek and shinny surface which looks elegant. White milky polycarbonate can let the sunlight penetrate into the house and also keep the privacy.
