A delightful app inviting winter warriors to escape.
If you’ve ever accessed government services, you know firsthand just ‘how delightful’ (sarcasm) the user experience can be. We teamed up with ThinkData Works to show, in a practical yet powerful way, just how useful open data can be when it’s harnessed effectively.
RinkTime sits on top of the City of Toronto’s available scheduling and location data, and enables Torontonians to discover all skating/shinny times around them while also rescuing them from a winter of pouring across multiple park websites and open tabs, broken pdf’s and excess information. (raised hands) Together, we put the user flow through its paces and created an experience as fun as it is informative and straightforward. Less time straining the eyes = more time stretching those legs.
Including an iconography set to differentiate between indoor and outdoor locations and show which have rentals, change rooms, washrooms, and wheelchair access, we crafted a visual brand that captures the heart of any winter enthusiast and appeals to both the beautiful simplicity of the season and the app’s ease of use. In doing so, we achieved an energetic visual feel to help throw some digital warmth at anyone with a case of the winter blues!
Arriving just in time for the 2015 holiday season (you’re welcome Santa), locals are loving it (thanks for the shoutout Strombo and blogTO) as they discover new hidden gems right in their own backyard. So whether it’s date night or you’re itching to play a bit of shinny, you know where to go… on time.
