Inkblot is a typeface meant for patterns and decoration, it is flexible and allows for experimentation in layering glyphs and putting them next to each other in order to create patterns and symbols that could be used for texture, accompaniment, or as the stars of the show. This typeface is made up of 60 glyphs —30 filled and 30 lined.
These glyphs were created by taking interesting forms out of ghost signatures. Ghost signatures are created by writing one’s name vertically and then folding the paper so that the name reflects on the other side. This has to be done in paper that isn’t very absorbent and with ink that takes a long time to dry in order to get the best effect, otherwise only part of the name will reflect and you won’t get the Rorschach test quality that they have. I used Color Copy Glossy Magazine paper and a Pilot disposable fountain pen. I wrote over a hundred names and selected the ones with the most compelling shapes to create these sets.
