At Jaypore, the interpretation of old age textile has different design approach every season. Trying to bring in old and creating new design vocabularies and possibilities to explore the technique with an innovative expression. Jaypore has worked with a vendor Mr. Tushar Kanti and his whole team of weavers residing in a Mushidabad in West Bengal, for this particular project. The word ekstra means ‘extra weft insertion’. Jamdani is a vividly patterned , sheer cotton fabric with tiny geometric motifs produced by non structured weft ,repeated all over the ground. Tradionally Jamdani is woven in white with designs bleached in white to achieve distinctive motif formation. Each supplementary weft is added by hand separately interlacing the warp threads with fine bamboo sticks using individual spool of threads The collection focuses on handcrafted wardrobe essentials which are un-confined by style parameters like age , shape, or place. The idea is to increase the longevity of each garment in its owner’s wardrobe, Each piece is a hope to encourage people to re-style and re-wear more.

The collection takes inspiration from 2D Arcade video games based on the kinds of games one would find in a classic arcade. Many classics like Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog fall in this group. Some arcade video games are about fighting, while others focus on dodging obstacles, scoring points and getting power-ups to help along the way. Since jamdani motifs are seen mostly in jaal or in geometry, here focusing more on geometric forms. There is play of shapes like rectangle , triangle , square and also linear shapes to make motifs. The concept revolves around the movement of fish along with oceanic currents which are depicted in literal geometric forms, these oceanic currents are depicted through block printing.
