Madonna with the sleeping Child

“Remake” of the “Madonna with the sleeping child” by Giovanni Battista Salvi, known as Sassoferrato (1609-1685), through the waste collage technique.

Self-portrait, 1650,
Uffizi Gallery
With a clear inspiration from Raphael and Guido Reni, Sassoferrato is an unknown artist for many. This was one of the reasons for my choice of this unknown artist hidden in the maze of the History of Art and that struck me for this theme as classic as it is intimate and exciting in the lights and in the deep sweetness with which the artist interprets the composition.
Giovanni Battista Salvi is striking for his refinement of the stroke and the drafting of the colors with which he depicted devotional images in his paintings mostly for private clients.
He is considered a faithful performer of the Italian pictorial tradition of his time.
