SPORTS CENTER IN MADRID

Architecture
I completed my degree in Architecture at Barcelona's UPC University in October 2010. I designed a Sports Center and submitted it to the tribunal Examiner of Lluís Moya, Mamen Domingo and Estanislao Roca.

The project is located in the center of Madrid, next to a park and close to a large church. It is a steep area that is divided by a wall which separates the public area from the church's plot.
When I visited the place I realized many buildings had banners in their balconies. The inhabitants were against the new master plan for the region because they would like to keep as many green areas as possible.

Firstly, my proposal tries to improve the connection between the park and the surroundings. At that time there were many retaining walls and barriers that hindered walking through the park. Secondly, I tried to reorganize the green areas. I designed a Sports Center which had part of its structure underground, with a green public space on its roof which intensified the relation between the building and the park.

The structure of the building consists of several prefabricated reinforced concrete beams built in situ, placed perpendicular to the perimeter cofferdams for one side, to counteract the horizontal thrust of the land. On the other side the large beams lay on triangular shaped poles to counteract the horizontal thrust of the land.
