The project was commissioned by ITM University, Gwalior to illustrate and design two sets of books for the Bihar Government on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. This would act as supplementary reading material for children in the state government schools. Sopan Joshi generated the textual content for the book, and also helped with the scripting of the storyboard. The format and illustration style were dictated by the fact that it was meant for young readers and a limited palette was used to keep production costs low. Both books explore Gandhi’s formative years and some keys instances that may have led him to contribute to the Freedom Movement in the capacity he did.
