In the era of social media, our actions are captured and broadcasted to the world. Every person becomes a performer and every performer needs a spotlight.

Powered by a Raspberry Pi and pulling from the OpenCV computer vision library, Spot Lamp is a face tracking table lamp that pans left to right and tilts up and down, responding to a person’s face. A Python script uses the connected camera to identify a human face, and attempts to center its location in frame by moving the two servo motors housed inside the lamp. A ring of LED’s surrounds the embedded camera.

The 3D printed prototype is painted in a nostalgic “old computer beige”, reminiscent of when devices were made to fit into a domestic setting.
