In late 2012, Shadeena Films was commissioned to produced and direct the Maltese segment of Slovo 21's European Documentary 'Next Door Family'.
 
The project focused on filming a number of interviews and a special lunch between two families of different cultural backgrounds where they met for the first time.

In november 2012, more than 400 meetings of local and migrant families in 7 European countries took place. Selected family meetings and public inquiries on the attitudes towards migrants and migration was filmed in each country. The documentary film Next Door Family was made of this footage to demonstrate coexistence of locals and migrants in Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary, Malta, Italy, Spain and Slovakia.

The family meetings were carried out within the project Next Door Family EU -- Inclusive Neigbourhoods. The coordinator of the project at the international level was NGO Word 21. The project and family meetings in Slovakia were organized by International Organization for Migration (IOM). The project was co-financed by the European Fund for the Integration of Third-Country Nationals (EIF) and by the U.S. Embassy in Bratislava, Slovakia. Media partners of family meetings in Slovakia were: Radio and television of Slovakia and SME daily.
