Seating with tablet

Seating with tablet has been designed for use in coffee shops.
The attached tablet can be used by customers to keep their coffee close at hand.
The organic flow of the curves of the frame needed a strong yet flexible material,
so Cane (rattan) was used for its construction. Cane also adds to the charm of the
furniture piece as it would go very well in the relaxed atmosphere of a coffee shop.
The design challenges the traditional way of making cane furniture,
effecting the craftsmen to innovate newer ways to make cane furniture.
It adds a modern twist to an age-old handicraft.
The furniture combines aesthetics with casual comfort and a sense of functionality.

The tablet has been created by weaving cane to form the surfaces.
An acrylic sheet has been cut and bent in the shape of the tablet to act as a place mat.

The seating was a part of the furniture display at the 2012 Convocation at NID.
The project has also been published in the magazine - Indian Architect &  Builder.
