Architecture Part 1 - Year 2 Integrated Design
The Integrated Design Project was the final project of year 2
consisting of designing a music school at the junction of two
connecting sites in the city of Lincoln.
Final Crit board below showing project in full. For more in-depth look, follow to bottom.
Concept
The music schools within the vicinity of the site offered no teaching for music composers. Inspired by one of the greats, Hans Zimmer, the theory for this building takes from Inception a film scored by Hans Zimmer. Inception; a movie about a dream within a dream. Could I take this theory and integrate it to architecture; a building within a building. By creating indoor/outdoor areas and structures under ceilings, optimising daylight and spatial height.
Development
Designing on AutoCAD and SketchUp simultaneously so there are no compromises or room for mistakes in developing the designs.
Floor Plans
The audience is seated in a horse shoe shape called a Thrust Stage. This allows for the orchestra to be more interactive with the audience. The sound reflection is shown on the second floor plan. Red represents vocals, magenta, the orchestra.
Elevation + Section
The sound reflection is shown in the section. Red represents vocals and magenta, the orchestra.
