BRIEF - Currently kids are using the original operating systems that come with smartphones. Smartphones now, have user-interfaces that are difficult to navigate, graphics that are not intuitive and a setup that is not safe for children.
GOAL - The goal was to come up with a solution in five days and design a system that is alluring, fun, secure and help kids maintain a healthy relationship with technology.
PROCESS - DAY 1 - User research and General research
DAY 2 - Ideation
DAY 3 - Lo-fi prototypes
DAY 4 - Hi-fi prototypes
DAY 5 - Documentation
The new kid friendly smartphone is called Chalk. It is a device with its own operating system specifically designed for kids with a focused user-interface.
RESEARCH - A comprehensive research was conducted using an online survey and interviewing young and tech savvy parents.
LOGO - The logo for this new system is designed to be legible and fun incorporating an object that children can relate to.
LOGO EXCLUSION ZONE - Clear space around the logo is equal to the height of the letter "a" and width is as same as the height.
COLOURS - The primary colours are Navy Blue, Sky Blue, White and Black. Secondary colours are inspired by the ones that most kids like.
TYPOGRAPHY - Visby Round CF and KG Miss Kindergarten are the primary typefaces used in the project.
ICONOGRAPHY - Icons used in this project are kid friendly and are easy to understand.
SCREENS - Chalk screens can be setup to switch automatically between Dark or Light mode based on the ambient light.
TAKEAWAY - This was a challenging project that taught me how to plan and execute a Design Sprint to accomplish a design objective with limited resources and a tight schedule.
