Rise Up, Fallen Angel International Open Call to Artists
About the ExhibitionRise Up, Fallen Angel is an Integrated Media Performance that will involve live improvised music accompanying images projected on three large screens. The curator will group the images so they will be displayed to create a non-linear narrative relating to the theme.
The exhibition will be different each time it is shown, but documentation of the event will be available for viewing. We are seeking images and video that do not contain text or language, but connect with the viewer on a primal, emotional level.
About the Theme
The purpose of the exhibition is to create an organically resonant, sensory immersion that satisfies the need for spiritual renewal and tribal ritual in a contemporary context. We seek to reinforce the resilience of the human spirit: to rise up and overcome the problems we all recognize in our lives, our communities and our planet. Rise up, fallen angel; renew your divine grace and live with love.
The interpretation of the terms “angel”, “divine grace”, “love”, “human spirit” and what it means to be a “fallen angel” are open to interpretation by the submitting artist. Returning to the primal commonalities of human animal needs and core desires this work is intended to cross cultural boundaries so there will be no text or language in the work.
About the Location
The Centre for Performance Research is located in Brooklyn, NY and is the singular new development for the performing arts in Brooklyn’s first L.E.E.D.-certified green building of its kind. This innovative arts facility is an artist driven initiative with an ongoing commitment to providing outstanding resources to performing artists in order to foster the development, research, and presentation of new work.
About the Curator
Victoria Gibson is an Integrated Media Artist who is involved in visual, dance and musical performances. Although her core training is in music, much of her professional work has included other media. She has worked with Pauline Oliveros, Anthony Braxton, Phil Minton and Karen Jamieson among others. Victoria lives in Vancouver and received her BA from the University of British Columbia, Canada.
