GCSE PORTFOLIO
Practicing basic rules of depth and shading.
Applying these techniques in a couple studies from life.
Abstract/spray painting.
Painting on textiles.
Exploring portraiture.
Both of these mediums were fairly new to me. While drawing the face with unatural colours in my oil pastels study was an interesting experience. I preferred using charcoal though on reflection I should have created deeper shadow with the charcoal like in my still-life eariler.
After so many drawings focusing on the shadow and detail in the face this paint marker protrait was refreshing and turned out to be one of my favourites due to how bold the colours are. I also like that although the colours are quite flat the angle I was drawing along with the mask gives this piece more emotion than my other portraits in my opinion.
I completed the theme of portraiture by creating an almost life sized clay head which is pictured below.
Natural forms.
Some larger pieces based off this theme using: pencil, acrylic paint and glass respectively.
Lino cut through the theme of nature
Final piece development.
Practice print for the butterfly I used in my final piece.
I created my final piece on a large board ( the butterfly alone is A3 for refrence) and tried to include a wide variety of mediums with bright colours so that it was beautiful yet imposing. I took inspiration from all the artists and techniques I looked at throughout my GCSE portfolio and also decided I wanted this to have a Alice In Wonderland like quality.
The backround is spray paint and paint roller, the blue leaves and butterfly are lino cut, the flowers are acrylic and the mushroom is coloured pencil. The small bee is watercolour and the pollen is gold leaf.
