AICC Competition: 2nd Place Entry

I competed in the AICC Corrugated Packaging Competition with two other teammates and two teachers. Our task was to make a display structure that would hold a themed item(s) that could be sold in a major store. We came up with the idea of a life guard chair that would hold both sun tan lotion and sunglasses. I did NOT design the any part of this display stand. My job was to create the graphics, textures, and logo for it which was still influenced by my teammates. It was a team effort.
This display piece holds to sides of suntan lotion and two sides of sunglasses, making it accessible to shop from all sides.
The shelving stands at about three feet and three inches tall (roughly).
With the umbrella and the top chair piece included, the display shelf stands at about six feet tall.

As you can see here, I designed the graphic wraps of the umbrella, the umbrella pole, the chair, and the shelving. The Radiance graphic is our logo, Radiance being the company / products name that we came up with. This logo was also created by me, but only after many iterations and input from my teammates.
Here you can get a better look at the wood texture that I implemented into the design. How I achieved this was by enlisting my photographer sister to take photographs of a plank of wood I had at home. I then took the image and ran it through photoshop giving it a layer blend with a copy of the plank that i turned into a grey scaled image. I then sharpened it up with the help of one of my teachers to give it a sharper and cleaner look.
I also created fake cut-out suntan lotion bottle graphics on adhesive backed paper that one of my teammates was kind enough to cut out and apply to corrugated E-flute board (cardboard).
One of my teachers had the idea of buying some cheap sunglasses to fill the sunglasses holders on our display piece. I then had the idea to make small tags for them using the same adhesive back paper for the lotion bottle cut outs as seen here.
The competition was as far as nation wide plus Canada but as for how many participants I do not know. In the end we took second place in two categories. One for structure design and the other for the graphic design. We were first year students that were beaten only by a team in Toronto Canada that consisted of five students on their third year. With more practice, I am sure we could have easily taken first!
