One of my college projects is to create a centralized carpooling platform for students in the Midwest of United States. 

Thousands of people are already carpooling, however, everything is done in an analog way. Existing alternatives include the use of Facebook groups, Snapchat, and Reddit. 

Taking buses isn't a convenient option since it's pricey for the college student market. 

My proposal is to create an Uber for long distance rides.
