While interning for the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, we were asked to investigate wayfinding systems in the museum. We studied several visitor “thresholds,” or points of transition. After surveying visitors, we designed and tested signage to improve their experience at the entrance to the museum and the entrance to two exhibitions.
