Fluoride is Hazardous to Your Health

Fluoride IS Neurotoxic in Pregnancy & Infancy based on 100's of Studies

It is undisputed that fluoride can, at some level, be a neurological hazard said Judge Edward Chen in a federal lawsuit against the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on June 17, 2020. Chen held off his final ruling hoping the EPA would consider the new fluoride neurological evidence in setting safe water fluoride levels which was published since plaintiffs filed their first petition. On January 13, 2021 Judge Chen denied EPA’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit. Chen awaits the EPA’s response to plaintiff’s updated petition and an updated draft of the National Toxicology Programs (NTP) monograph on fluoride’s neurotoxicity, expected early in 2021.

Plaintiffs include the Fluoride Action Network; Food and Water Watch; American Academy of Environmental Medicine; International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology; Moms Against Fluoridation and several individuals.

According to attorney Michael Connett, “Our case continues against the EPA for its ongoing failure to protect the public from the neurologic risks posed by the fluoridation chemicals added to public drinking water. At the close of trial this summer, the Judge stated that we had presented ‘serious evidence’ which presents ‘serious questions’ about the safety of fluoridation. The Judge also noted that EPA had used an incorrect standard for assessing the available science.”

Seventy-three percent of US community water systems are artificially fluoridated.

Fluoride ingestion must be avoided by pregnant women and infants to assure normal brain development, caution fluoride researchers in the Journal of Pediatrics (“Current Best Evidence,” July 2020)

Scientists Howard Hu, MD and Morteza Bashash, PhD provide commentary on one of seven well-conducted and government funded Mother-Offspring studies indicating that fluoride can potentially affect brain development.

They write, "Fluoride is not essential for growth and development, a cautious step could be avoidance of fluoridated products and water by women during pregnancy and by infants during the first 6 months of life."

JAMA Pediatrics Journal editor Dimitri Christakis, MD, agrees. “I would advise them [pregnant women] to drink bottled water or filtered water because it is not a particularly odious thing to do and actually does reduce the risk,” in a discussion of the JAMA Pediatrics fluoride/IQ study.

Additionally, 67 studies found a lower IQ among children with higher fluoride exposure; 400 link fluoride to neurological effects.

Officials also fail to adequately publicize accepted advice to avoid mixing fluoridated water into infant formula to prevent dental fluorosis (discolored teeth). Can government be trusted to adequately warn parents of fluoride’s neurological toxicity? Maybe's it's time to end water fluoridation.

The most used fluoridation chemical,  hydrofluosilicic acid, a toxin-laced waste product of phosphate fertilizer manufacturing, has never been safety tested in humans or animals.

Dr. Hu recently testified in a US federal fluoride lawsuit against the EPA. Plaintiffs demand EPA lower allowable fluoride levels in public water supplies based on the growing evidence of fluoride’s neurological harm.

According to Law360.com “The judge said it’s undisputed that fluoride can, at some level, be a neurological hazard. The EPA doesn’t dispute that, but what has been hotly disputed at trial is the level at which a neurological hazard exists.”

Harvard professor and neurotoxicity expert Philippe Grandjean, MD, also testified in the fluoride trial. He concluded in a recent review
"… there is little doubt that developmental neurotoxicity is a serious risk associated with elevated fluoride exposure, whether due to community water fluoridation, natural fluoride release from soil minerals, or tea consumption, especially when the exposure occurs during early development."

Fluoridation was declared safe for 75 years. “Yet, studies conducted in North America examining the safety of fluoride exposure in pregnancy were nonexistent,” write Till and Green in “Controversy: The evolving science of fluoride: when new evidence doesn’t conform with existing beliefs.” Till and Green both advise pregnant women to avoid fluoride.

According to the  US National Toxicolory Program's draft report "fluoride is presumed to be a cognitive developmental hazard to humans.

"It's time to protect children's developing brains" from fluoride writes Linda Birnbaum, PhD ,who is Scientist Emeritus and Former Director, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and National Toxicology Program of the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Birnbaum, who is internationally recognized for her work on the toxicity of flame retardants and other chemicals, was the Director of the National Toxicology Program when the report on fluoride began.  https://www.ehn.org/fluoride-and-childrens-health-2648120286.html

Bruce Lanphear, MD, MPH, a physician and epidemiologist at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada, has studied the neurotoxicity of lead, fluoride and other toxic chemicals for over twenty years. His studies were the key ones that led the CDC and the WHO to conclude that there is no safe level of lead in children’s blood.

Dr Lanphear is a co-author of Dr. Birbaum's op-ed, who also advises pregnant women and mothers of infants not to drink fluoridated water

EPA scientists, in a recent research paper, write ""Fluoride was observed to have the greatest increase in impacting cognitive ability and it is often reported to affect memory and cause cognitive deficits."  (International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, July 2020)

New York State Communities which have stopped or rejected fluoridation are:  Suffolk, Nassau & Rockland counties, the capital city of Albany, Elba, Naples, Levittown, Canton, Corning, Johnstown, Oneida, Carle Place, Beacon, Poughkeepsie, Riverhead, Central Bridge Water District, Homer, Ithaca, Rouses Point, Pulaski, Romulus, Amsterdam, Walden and Manhasset.

NYS Department of Health statistics show no correlation between fluoridation and less tooth decay See charts here:  https://fluoridedangers.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_12.html
