These dogs has their origin from Colima, Mexico.
The Xoloitzcuintle is a pre-Hispanic symbol. In Aztec mythology, it was believed that the xoloitzcuintles accompanied the souls of the deceased when they traveled to Mictlan, the underworld, for which they were sacrificed and buried along with the dead whom they had to guide.
