The bench is often placed for us to take a break and admire the view. We often think nothing of such seating; treating them as functional pieces of outdoor furniture at best.

I wanted to address this by making portraits of our unsung heroes of rest. I wanted to turn the camera from the view to the bench, in all its styles and condition. I realised that there are so many different benches around and what a shame it is to pay them such little attention.

I, for one, salute the humble bench.
