John Westerfield's profile

The HCZ Center for Higher Education and Career Support

John Westerfield serves as a senior advisor to the board of directors at Mitsui Fudosan American, as well as a managing member at Braddock Capital Management. In addition to his professional activities, John Westerfield supports various charities such as the Harlem Children’s Zone.

With a focus on supporting health, wellness, and community outreach throughout the Harlem area, Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) has established the Center for Higher Education and Career Support (CHECS). The initiative was established, in part, to continue supporting students when they leave HCZ for college. In fact, CHECS continues working with individuals through graduation as they begin to start their careers as young professionals.

CHECS operates with an overriding mission of seeing every Harlem youth graduate from college, holding the belief that a college education represents a student’s single most valuable tool for disrupting cyclical, generational poverty. With this vision in mind, graduates frequently return to CHECS to inspire future generations of college students and members of the workforce.

Year-round support for college students ranges in nature from one on one advising sessions to non-stop outreach efforts, which involve care packages for students and regular communications with a student’s professors and administrators. Additional services include student and professional workshops, internship opportunities, social and emotional wellness support, and much more. To learn more about how CHECS can help students and recent college graduates, please visit www.hcz.org.
