The Rural Area Medical event at the Wise County Fairground in southwest Virginia provides free healthcare services to over 3,000 uninsured or underinsured patients every July. Demand for medical care is so high, many patients sleep in their cars in the fairground parking lot hoping to be one of the lucky ones who will be seen.
