White-throated dipper
Cinclus cinclus
European dipper is a small starling sized bird. In Finland it can be found by swiftly running water during winter, usually from October to April. Most of the around 5000 dippers that spend their winter here are breeding in northern Norway, sweden and NW Russia. Finnish lapland only has estimated 250-350 breeding pairs.
I weight 60 grams and my length is 18cm.
I do have wings!
Its very important to stretch before and after diving.
Im an endangered species but luckily our population is currently stable.
Join me! Water is pleasant 1 degrees Celsius and its raining sleet!
Some maintenance between the work!
I chose to spend my winter in this small river in southern finland.
No dippers in this picture but foreground rock might have dipper foot prints in snow.
Thank you for watching and thank you for this lovely bird who trusted me after two days of trying. :) -Tatu
