Our attention is being hijacked.
Social networking sites are constantly vying for our attention, with features designed to intentionally steal as much of our time as possible, networks have even begun sending us notifications that have nothing to do with our activity on site. Research has shown that even receiving a notification distracts and damages performance nearly as much as actually stopping to use the phone. This effect can be even worse when you factor in the emergence of computer notifications.
