Yoyogi National Gymnasium
Kenzo Tange
1964

It was built for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.
Designed by Kenzo Tange,
it is famous as his representative work.
A suspended ceiling structure is adopted to realize an internal space without pillars.
This is an application of the structure of a suspension bridge,
and it is the first time in history that it has been adopted for the ceiling of the stadium.
And this structure also appears in its unique appearance.
Since its completion, it continues to be used as a stadium.
If the Tokyo Olympics are to be held in 2021,
it will be used as a sub-venue again.
