Melanin Motions: Making an A/V Company
Problem
An Untapped Niche in the Industry
After acting and designing in the A/V industry for a year, I noticed a problem with brand expression in business content development. To get to the source of the problem, me and my cinematography friend took a survey of the local videography studios. Our market research lead us to see the problem; businesses interested in buying video services aren't provided enough options to customize the content. By focusing on the development of narrative-driven content, Melanin Motions represents each client as individuals first.
Solution
Branding
The first task I had to complete was defining the brand specifications. Melanin motions had several focal points to understand:
* We Sell Story-Based Content
* Our Goal is to Represent Individuals
* We Want Business and Artist Clients
From this preliminary definition, I sketched a logo concept that was then constructed by a graphic design friend in Illustrator. I took the working vector files and tested color palettes to match skin tones. While the visual brand was dictated by the logo's style, the voice of the brand was to be developed as 'counseling', 'collaborative', 'encouraging', and 'story-like'. This groundwork set the stage for realizing the brand.

Complete Logo with A Custom-Made Background
Business Cards, Flyers, and the Website
Our marketing guy requested business cards, a flyer and a website to share with potential clients. The business cards and flyer were made using Affinity Designer and Publisher, and the website was (self)coded with a GatsbyJS Starter and Markdown files.
Motion Graphics and Advertising
The creative director and I wanted to give our potential clients a sample of our work, spanning three different business clients and a motion graphic. While the director compiled video footage, I created the animation in After Effects. I wanted to convey the sense of moving through a crowd, to see the logo on a stage. Once these parts were completed, I spliced together this collaboration on Premier Pro, check it out!

First Client Success Story!
Our first major client was a music producer, who wanted to make some brand videos for his label, Keep and Give Love. After meeting to discuss the project, we determined the specifications, which I then laid into a contract(shown below). It's important that Melanin Motions contracts are clear and concise; our primary goal is to start filming as soon as possible!
