Mockups of the Redesigned Menu
Japan Express Menu
Problem
The client wanted to redesign the menu, then replace the current store menu. The project was constrained by requiring two versions, a seven-panel interior and a four-panel exterior. This project was my first paid design and involved a great deal of collaboration between the owners and I.
The Menu Before and After the Redesign
Solution
The task started just like all previous design work I've done, with an interview to discuss requirements. Japan Express was interested in a fresh, modern feel for their brand, with a concern for text sizing. After going through a few mock-ups, we decided on the layout and background. The header images were provided and we sent it to print. I decided to use Serif's Affinity suite while making print products.
The measurements were 15.5x24 inches for the inside, and 16x50 inches for the outside, printed at a local Staples. The requirements of the project necessitated that the prints be:
*   Adhesive
*   Weather-Proof
*   Last for 3-5 Years
Meaning there were very limited choices for print material. I chose a vinyl window decals, which were advertised to specification. The installation took 3.5 hours with a team of three people.
Outcome
Three years later, the menus are in perfect condition, check out some pictures below:
