Professor Longhair Bust
The  Client provided a completed scan of Professor Longhair and their desire was for a large (just under or at actual size) printed model of Professor Longhair. As the model was much too large to print in one piece, I was tasked with splitting the main model into several printable smaller pieces as well as design a way to lock together the printed parts together to make the final model.
Shown here is part of the final locking or keying system that I designed and was agreed upon by the rest of the design team. Openings to fit a square dowel that would keep the smaller parts from shifting when they were assembled and glued together.
Here is depicted the full breakdown of how the original model was sliced into six total pieces in order to fit on our FDM machines for printing.
Finally here is the model after assembly and the finishing process. This here is one of two final models we were commissioned to make. At this stage I was working with/ under another designer who specialized in finishes such as the bronze one depicted above.
