Home Away From Home

This project brief required us to explore a selected neighbourhood and intervene. We selected my neighbourhood and for the first part of the project, I was intrigued to see how my groupmates had perceived my area as a serene, isolated place.

For me, my Jalan Tenteram represented chaos for a humble 5 room flat housed 10 of us. Space was an issue and quarrels often ensued. This led me to always try to stay away from home and finding my home, away from home.
One of the many stairs overlooked the highway and it allowed for me, moments of contemplation. However with the staircase facing the lift lobby, it feels like an intrusion every time you're having a contemplative moment.
The intricate maze of walls created some form of playground in the void decks.
The apron footpath that was recessed from the ground floor created a unique path for me, particularly during a game of catching when I was younger.
With the multi-purpose hall being actively used for games like badminton and soccer, I supposed some residents got sick of it and had handrails installed as a form of hostile architecture. Ironically, it became a part of the game.
