West Valley College prioritizes student success and strives to empower them to build a promising future where their talents, drive, and enthusiasm can make a meaningful impact. Situated on a picturesque 143-acre campus in Saratoga, nestled in the Santa Cruz Mountains and located at the southwest border of Silicon Valley, the college provides a conducive learning environment. In line with their growth initiative, West Valley College partnered with DLR Group to enhance their visibility in the community through the addition of entry signage around the campus perimeter. The goal was to create a cohesive and iconic system that would endure over time, aligning with the design of the existing entry signage. Beyond the entry signage installations, DLR Group explored opportunities to expand the signage system throughout the campus, incorporating various sign types. This included a placemaking solution designed to serve as a captivating backdrop for photography and social media sharing.
Scope Summary
The design package for this project encompassed the creation of entryway identification signage in different sizes for the campus. As the design process unfolded, DLR Group explored methods to extend the visual style throughout the campus, ensuring a cohesive look for all wayfinding and signage elements. Two options were devised: one drawing inspiration from the pergola elements present on campus, and another emphasizing the materiality of existing signage and buildings. DLR Group played a key role in providing experiential graphic design services for the project.
