The EZ Slice
This product is an educational tool primarily designed for students in culinary classes. It consists of a cutting board and a chef's knife with a specialized handle that encourages proper knife-grip and slicing technique through muscle memory.
Both the knife and handle were redesigned to meet the needs of our users. The handle, in particular, is meant to be more comfortable than traditional knife handles. However, it will feel uncomfortable if the user holds the knife with an improper grip. This final design was created through observation as well as interviews with culinary experts and educators.
Additional user groups explored were those with physical impairments and disabilities, as the constrained motion of the blade allows these individuals to more safely control a knife.
