Revitalizing UNICEF South Africa's Annual Report: A Raw Fusion of Data and Photography

When tasked with reimagining UNICEF South Africa's annual report, we ventured beyond the conventional, creating a fold-out document as opposed to the usual booklet. The brief emphasized the integration of photography and the transformation of substantial data into engaging infographics. In a design landscape dominated by polished infographics, we aimed for a more authentic, raw aesthetic.

Our unique approach involved intertwining photography with infographics, forging a direct connection between data and real-life stories. The report served dual purposes: one side featuring feedback, event explanations, and a yearly timeline, while the reverse transformed into a poster summarizing all data into accessible infographics. The intent was to provide a practical tool for field professionals, allowing easy reference by hanging it on their walls.

To maintain cost-effectiveness, we committed early on to a two-colour palette, influencing the overall art direction. Illustrations intentionally embraced an intentionally uncomfortable style to avoid the clinical perfection often associated with vector representations of people.

Choosing Cyclus Offset paper for its affordability, recycled nature, and excellent print definition, we ensured a sustainable and visually impactful final product.
