Endless OS
User Research + UX + UI  - From 2013 to 2018

As part of Endless’s design team for more than 4 years, I worked on OS projects of all sorts: shell theme and features, native and content applications, OS installer, SDK, publishing platforms, among many others.

Designing for that public required me to deeply understand their specifics, such as languages, hardware set-up (many users were displaying Endless OS on old 800x600px TVs) and get to know their needs, hopes and fears. Because of this, I’ve participated and led research projects, interviewing and observing people in Brazil, Indonesia, Guatemala, Mexico and United States.

That certainly impacted the way I designed simple UI elements to complex features, shifting assumptions on how users understand things and diversifying my own sense of aesthetics. I’ve also worked on extending the use of user insights to other company’s stakeholders, influencing the decision-making and strategy, and even organizational processes.

Designing software for novice users was challenging, although it brought my creative process to a more humanized approach: I’ve learned to internalize their barriers and fears, but more than that, focus on their potentials without offending their intelligence or integrity, leading to solutions that awaken the natural curiosity that exists pretty much all of us.
