Fan art (Emma Watson in Beauty and the Beast)
It was an interesting and challenging project for me. I set a few goals for this project and tried to fulfill them as much as possible.
Here are the main ones that I managed to accomplish:
1. Draw a character in 6 hours.
2. Convey the emotion of the character exactly as in the reference. This is an especially important point, since most of my characters before were puppet-like, their faces mostly expressed an aloofness.
3. Try out the whole set of new Photoshop brushes, create the impession of traditional art.
I've also created the process steps to show the techniques I use in my digital drawings.
You can notice that firstly I worked with the simple forms, trying to create a composition and generate an approximate color palette. Then, using curves I found the balance of black&white in my picture. And finally, I added a bit more contrast color on background and drew few more detailes on her face and clothes.
Did I succeed with my ambition? Well, yes more than that in many ways. In my next painting I will try to pay more attention to the textures and reflectivity of different objects.
